چکیده

Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF)supports and maintains the neuromuscular system duringdevelopment and through adulthood by promoting neuro-plasticity. The aim of this study was to determine if differentmodes of exercise can promote changes in GDNF expres-sion and neuromuscular junction (NMJ) morphology inslowand fast-twitch muscles. Rats were randomlyassigned to a run training (run group), swim training (swimgroup), or sedentary control group. GDNF protein contentwas determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay.GDNF protein content increased significantly in soleus(SOL) following both training protocols (P< 0.05). Althoughnot significant, an increase of 60% in the extensor digitorumlongus (EDL) followed swim-training (NS; P< 0.06). NMJmorphology was analyzed by measuring a-bungarotoxinlabeled post-synaptic end plates. GDNF content and totalend plate area were positively correlated. End plate areadecreased in EDL of the run group and increased in SOLof the swim group. The results indicate that GDNF expres-sion and NMJ morphological changes are activity depen-dent and that different changes may be observed byvarying the exercise intensity in slowand fast-twitch fibers.2013 IBRO. GDNF content and NMJ morphology are altered in recruited muscles following high‐speed and resistance wheel training

Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) may play a role in delaying the onset of aging and help compress morbidity by preventing motor unit degeneration. Exercise has been shown to alter GDNF expression differently in slow- and fast-twitch myofibers. The aim was to examine the effects of different intensities (10, 20, ~30, and ~40 m·min(-1)) of wheel running on GDNF expression and ne...

Effect of progressive resistance exercise on β1 integrin and vinculin protein levels in slow-and fast-twitch skeletal muscles of male rats

Introduction: Skeletal muscle is a flexible and ever changing tissue and the role of costameric proteins in its response to different stimuli is not well defined. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of progressive resistance exercise on β1 integrin and vinculin proteins in fast and slow twitch skeletal muscles of male rats. Methods: Twelve male Wistar rats (weight: 298±5.2 gr...

Effect of eight weeks of resistance training on the expression of klotho protein and insulin-like growth factor 1 genes in slow twitch and fast twitch skeletal muscles of aged Wistar rats

Background and Aims: Klotho protein is a substance effective in increasing life expectancy. Moreover, it prevents muscle atrophy, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular disease. Therefore, the present aimed to assess changes in the expression of klotho protein and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) genes in the muscles of aged Wistar rats after eight weeks of resistance training. Materials and Met...

The aerobic maternal exercise increases PDK4 gene expression in slow and fast twitch muscles of rat male offspring.

Recent studies indicate that environment can modify skeletal muscle gene expression and transcriptional factors in offspring genes. Therefore, exercising can lead to changes in the gene expression of the future generations. One of the important metabolic factors is PDK4, which is known as the main factor in Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex (PDC). This study examined the effects of maternal exerci...

تأثیر فعالیت ایزومتریک با شدت‌های مختلف با و بدون کاهش جریان خون بر درگیری تارهای تند انقباض

Abstract: Background and Aim:  Recruitment of fast twitch muscles cause an increase in muscle mass and strength but these muscles are recruited in high intensities. Old people or persons in rehabilitation process couldn’t do intense training. On the other hand, it has been told that training with blood flow restriction could recruit fast twitch muscles in low intensity. Therefore, we decided to...
